Abstract:Using titanium dioxide (TiO2),silicon powder (Si) and sodium metaborate (NaBO2·4H2O) as raw materials,ultra-high temperature ceramic titanium diboride powder (TiB2) was prepared by molten salt assisted silicon thermal reduction method.The effects of the synthesis temperature and the addition of molten sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) on the reaction process were discussed.The removal effect of the by-product silicon dioxide (SiO2) by hot water washing was studied and the microstructure of the target product TiB2 powder was characterized.The results show that TiB2 single crystal grains with high degree of crystallization can be obtained when the synthesis temperature is 1 100 ℃ and the holding time is 4 h.The TiB2 particle size is about 400 nm and a few particles can reach 1 μm.Adding Na2SiO3 into the reaction system can reduce the viscosity of the liquid phase of the system,which is conducive to the absorption of SiO2.By adjusting the modulus of sodium silicate,the by-products can be removed through the hot water washing method under atmospheric pressure,and the environmental pollution caused by pickling can be avoided.
