Abstract: Composite antibacterial material was prepared by doping acid-treated sepiolite with ionic liquid (tetradecyl-3-methylimidazole bromide). X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) methods were employed to analyze the dispersion state of ionic liquid in sepiolite. The antibacterial abilities of the as-prepared materials were investigated with E.coli (gram-negative) and B. paramycoides (gram-positive) used as target strain. The results show that ionic liquid finely disperses in the micro-pore of sepiolite and exhibites good thermal stability which makes it a promising material to be used in heat-resisting coating to give rise to antibacterial ability.
