Abstract: The luminescence mechanism, development history, garnet structure of white light-emitting diodes, as well as the research progress of garnet vanadate luminescence performance by Eu3+ single doping, Eu3+ co-doping with other rare earth ions, and Eu3+ co-doping with other metal ions were reviewed. The shortcomings of insufficient luminous intensity, low stability, and short life of the red phosphor in the current white light-emitting diodes are put forward. It is considered that adopting Eu3+ single doping or co-doping method can enhance the luminous ability of the red phosphor in the white light-emitting diode. It is also looked forward to how to continue to improve the luminous performance of the red phosphor in the white light-emitting diode.
