Preparation of solvent-responsive photonic nanochains and regulation of their structure and optical properties

Abstract: We fabricated solvent-responsive Fe3O4@poly(HEMA-co-AA) photonic nanochains by hydrogen bond template polymerization. Optical and solvent responsiveness were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, optical microscopy and fiber optic spectrometer. In the fixed reaction time and the ratio of the mixed solvent, the system was studied under various preparation conditions. The variation of the structure and optical properties of the Fe3O4@poly(HEMA-co-AA) photonic nanochains, such as stiffness, chain length, reflectivity and reflectivity wavelength was described. The experimental results show that when the preparation time is 1 min, UV curing 5 min, solvent ethylene glycol and water mass ratio is 6 ∶1, as the monomer concentration, crosslinker concentration, particle concentration and magnetic field strength increase respectively, the chain length of the photonic nanochains increases, the flexibility of the chain is reduced, and the reflectivity of the chain is first increased and then decreased. At the same time, with the increase of temperature, the chain length of photonic nanochains is not obvious, and the flexibility, particle spacing and reflectivity of the chains show a trend of increasing.
