Abstract: It is difficult to eliminate noise in the algorithm to invert particle size distribution in laser particle size measurement,so the scattering light energy matrix of the particle was analyzed. The variable-scale algorithm was executed on the problem. As the scattered light energy distribution varied much for a large and a small particle, and the white noise effect was different on each element, a gradient adjustment vector was adapted to adjust iteration directions respectively. It was a connector for the successive gradients. As a result, the gradients are adjusted accurately. Experiments were carried out on two particulate reference materials and their mixture. The results show that the errors to the reference value are not more than 10.09%. Furthermore, the mixed samples with multi-peak distribution can be identified.
