Motion characteristics of spherical particle sedimentation in vertical pipe

Abstract: In order to investigate the law of particle sedimentation in the tube and the reliability of the direct numerical simulation calculation method, an experimental platform for particle free sedimentation in a vertical tube was set up for comparative research.The digital image captured by the high-speed camera was processed by MATLAB software to obtain the position trajectory map and position coordinates of the particle sedimentation process. At the same time, the direct cloud simulation method was used to obtain the velocity cloud map and position distribution map of the particle sedimentation process. The results show that the particle sedimentation movement has experienced a process of acceleration to gradual stability, the trajectory of the movement is in a spiral downward law, and the distribution of the radial position has periodic oscillation. The simulation results can match well with the experimental results, the feasibility and reliability of the experiment and direct numerical simulation method are verified.
