CFD-DEM simulation of flow blockage collapse characteristics in horizontal rotating pipe

Abstract: In order to study the influence of horizontal pipeline rotation on flow blockage collapse and speed up flow blockage collapse, the model of coupling computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and discrete element method (DEM) was adopted to simulate flow blockage collapse in the pneumatic conveying process at 5 rotational speeds (0, 150, 300, 450 and 600 r/min). The effect of rotational speed on flow field characteristics in horizontal pipe was studied. The results show that the blockage flow is polarized, the perturbation of particle groups is enhanced, and the motion is complex. Pipe rotation can accelerate the blockage collapse, but the optimal speed should be kept between 150 and 300 r/min based on the comprehensive collapse effect and rotational energy consumption.
