Abstract: The classification performance of horizontal turbo air classifier had great effect on powder yield and system energy consumption. The effects of three feeding types including upper feeding type, side cross-flow feeding type and side downstream feeding type were investigated by experiments according to the air flow characteristic in this paper. The experimental results show that, under different air volume rates and rotor cage speeds, upper feeding type effectively improves the dispersion of the material due to the strong swirling flow. The Newton classification efficiency averagely increases about 12% indicating better classification performance; meanwhile, the air volume rates match the rotor cage speed. Thus, the design of feeding type takes the equipment arrangement into account as well as the classification performance.
