Preparation and morphology characterization of cubic nanometer magnesium oxide

Abstract: Direct precipitation method was applied to prepare the precursor of flaky magnesium hydroxide. Then calcination method was employed to obtain cubic nanometer magnesium oxide. In order to optimize experimental conditions, the influencing factors on morphology of precursor and magnesium oxide were discussed. The results show that flaky magnesium hydroxide with better dispersion is obtained when concentration of sodium hydroxide is 0.5 mol/L and concentration of magnesium salt is 0.4 mol/L. Besides, magnesium chloride with higher purity can further improve the crystallinity of magnesium hydroxide, which has petaloid-like morphology with homogeneous dispersion. During the calcination process, cubic nanometer magnesium oxide with better dispersion is obtained when the temperature is controlled at 1 150 ℃.
