Experimental study on flow characteristics of die filling of spherical glass beans

Abstract: In order to study the flow characteristics of spherical glass beads during die filling, the influence of the diameter of glass beads on the air sensitive index was studied; high speed camera was used to record the die filling process of 1.99 mm glass beads using shoe-die filling system, and the influence of three kinds of shoe speed on die filling process was studied, and the critical filling speed of glass beads was quantitatively studied. The results conclude that when the diameter of glass beads is less than 0.37 mm, the flow behavior of glass beads is affected by air; when the diameter of glass beads is 1.99 mm, the air sensitive index is very large, and the flow behavior of glass beads is almost unaffected by air; when the speed of feeding shoe is 200 or 400 mm/s, the flow behavior of glass beads is stable, and Hopper flow is dominant; while the speed of feeding shoe is 1 000 mm/s, the flow behavior of glass beads is not very stable, and Bulk flow is dominant; the critical filling speed of glass beads is 270.7 mm/s and the exponent n is 1.040 8.
