Abstract:In order to characterize the explosion dispersion effect of chopped carbon fibers, a characterizing method was set up based on the number of the carbon fibers and an explosion dispersion experiment was done under conditions with less wind. The dimension, shape and distribution law were measured.Furthermore, the frequency and cumulation curves were drawn.By the analysis, the main procedure of explosion dispersing of carbon fiber is single carbon fibers separated from each other along radial direction while a little of single carbon fibers is broken along axis. The least discrete unit is a single carbon fiber while the bigger one is an aggregate which is composed of several single carbon fibers. By the experimental results, 50% of the sample carbon fibers are dispersed into small discrete unit including 1, 2 or 3 single carbon fibers, 27% of the sample carbon fibers are dispersed into smaller discrete unit including 1 or2 single carbon fibers, which contains a lot of small pieces produced by breaking of single carbon fibers.
