Abstract: To achieve the in-line measurement of pulverized coal fineness in coal pipes of power plants, the light fluctuation method combining the random variation of transmission light intensity and light scatting principles was presented for particle size measurement of gas -solid two phase flow, and the multi-probe and fixed in-line measurement system for coal fineness was developed. The system was applied to 600 MW power unit of Tongliao Huolinhe Pithead Power Company Limited. The pulverized coal fineness of 28 coal pipes was monitored in real time. The average results of in-line measuring results and off-line sampling results of this system were compared by the method of off-line sampling analysis. The results show that the relative deviation between the average results of in-line measuring results and off-line sampling results of this system is less than 12% , which indicates that this system has effectiveness for the fineness measurement of pneumatically conveyed pulverized coal.
