Abstract: Taking ammonium sulfate leaching liquid from asbestos tailings and ammonium hydroxide as raw materials, the “house of cards” magnesium hydroxide was prepared. The “house of cards” magnesium oxide was prepared by the precursor of “house of cards” magnesium hydroxide. The structure and morphology of “house of cards” magnesium oxide and its precursor were characterized by means of XRD and SEM. The growth mechanism of “house of cards” magnesium oxide was studied based on corresponding thermodynamics and dynamics theories. The results indicate that “house of cards” magnesium oxide can be prepared by roasting the precursor for 60 min at temperature of 600 ℃. The “house of cards” magnesium oxide which is crystallized well inherits the features of the precursor. With the increase of calcination temperature and the prolong of calcination time, the crystallite size of magnesium oxide increases gradually.
