Abstract: In view of the large deviation of dust amount calculated by existing calculation formulas for ash storage field, using the backstepping method of dust source strength from actual measured total suspended particles concentration in the periphery of an ash storage field of a certain power station, the calculation formulas of dust source strength for the ash storage field were compared and evaluated. A more accurate calculating formula of dust amount for the ash storage field was recommended. An improved method for determining the protection zone of atmospheric environment for the ash storage field was presented. The results show that the recommended formula and determined protection zone of atmospheric environment have high accuracy and conservation.
