Research on Preparation of Silica-TiO2 Composite Particles through Mechanical Grinding Method and Their Pigment Property

Abstract: Silica-TiO2 composite particles were prepared through dispersing and depolymerizing the silica as well as grinding mixed particles of silica and TiO2 by the method of wet grinding. Influencing factors in the process of preparation were optimized. The structures of silica -TiO2 composite particles, property of pigment and ultraviolet shielding property were characterized. The results show that the factors affecting grinding composition of silica and TiO2 and the optimal condition are that the median diameter of silica is 2.288 μm, the mass ratio of grinding media to materials is 5∶1, the mass ratio of particles in slurry is 18%, the grinding time is 60 min, and the mass ratio of particles in dispersant is 6% . The feature of silica-TiO2 composite particles is TiO2 coated on the surface of silica particles. The silica-TiO2 composite particles have similar pigment property as TiO2, and have ultraviolet shielding property for the synergistic reaction between silica and TiO2.
