Abstract: The composition and structure characteristics of steel slag with mineral and chemical composition quite similar to the silicate cement clinkers were analyzed. The main influencing factors of potential cementitious activity of steel slag were elaborated to be CaO·2SiO2,CaO·3SiO2 and other minerals rich in the steel slag. The evaluation methods for cementitious activation of steel slag were summed up. The activation methods of steel slag and progress of research on activation were chiefly introduced. The future research emphasis for activation of steel slag was pointed to be developing of composite activation.
