Abstract: Using cerium nitrate and citric acid as raw materials, nanometer CeO2 particles were prepared by microwave heating method. XRD and TEM were used to characterize the products. Activities of prepared nano-photocatalysts were investigated under sunlight. The results show that the prepared samples are fluorite cubic nanometer CeO2 particles with the particle size of 19.62 nm when the microwave power is 450 W and the heating time is 60 s. Photodegradations of methylene blue in an aqueous solution is studied taking nanometer CeO2 particles as photocatalyers. After 120 min illumination, the decolorization rate of the methylene blue is 82% when using catalysts with mass concentration of 0.6 g/L, which is higher by 21% than that with CeO2 particles prepared by milling method.
