Abstract: Taking CeCl3 as the cerium source and sodium carbonate as the precipitant, CeO2 precursors and CeO2 powders were prepared by precipitation method at different reaction temperatures. The composition, structure, morphology and polishing property of the products were studied. The results indicate that when the reaction temperature of CeO2precursors is below or above 50 ℃ , the main composition of the precursors is Ce2 (CO3)3·8H2O or CeCO3OH. The polishing property of CeO2 powders produced by these two precursors is influenced by reaction temperatures. When the reaction temperature is between 45 and 50 ℃ , CeO2 powders have uniform size distribution and perfect polishing property.
