Synthesis of Mesoporous TiO2 and Its Adsorption Ability for Congo Red

Abstract: Taking titanium sulfate and tetrabutyl titanate as raw materials, mesoporous TiO2 was prepared by the method of hydrothermal. The samples were characterized by XRD, N2 adsorption-desorption, and surface hydroxyl groups measurements. Congo red was selected as a target contaminant to study adsorption ability of the samples. The results show that the samples prepared from titanium sulfate and tetrabutyl titanate have mesoporous structures with specific surface areas of 153.2 and 314.3 m2/g, respectively. The adsorption kinetics of congo red fit well with pseudo second order kinetics equation. The adsorption ratios of congo red by both samples are respectively maintained above 90% and 70%.
