Abstract: To distinguish the source of two kinds of unknown soil evidences during the process of judicial evidence inspection and identification, X ray fluorescence spectrometry, XRD and laser particle size determination were employed to test and compare the samples. The results show that the difference in chemical composition, mineral composition and particle size feature between the two kinds of soil samples is remarkable. The original source of the two soil evidence is different, although they are collected from the same scene of the crime.

Keywords: soil evidence; examination method; chemical composition; mineral composition; particle size distribution
