Abstract : TiO2 -CuO composite particles were synthesized using solvothermal method. The structure and morphologies of the composite particles were characterized and their photocatalytic property for methanol productions from the photoreduction of CO2 under simulated sun-light were tested and the mechanism was discussed. The experimental results suggested that TiO2-CuO composite particles were hollow particles with a mean diameter of about 4.5 μm. Copper sulfate acts both as the templates and the metal source during the synthetic process. The photocatalytic results indicates that TiO2-CuO composite particles with mass fraction of 8% of CuO own the best photocatalytic activity. The methanol production reached 127.8 μmol/g with isopropanol as the hole scavenger. The modification of CuO and the adding of isopropanol are found to promote the separation of holes and electrons and the efficiencies for photoreduction of CO2 are improved.
