Preparation and Properties of Zirconia-Titania Composite Powders

Abstract:To obtain the powders with high reflectance and emissivity, zirconia particles were coated with titania precursor by sol-gel method.After calcination, zirconia-titania composite powders were synthesized. The prepared powders were studied through thermal, phase and morphological analysis, and their reflectance and emissivity were tested. The results show that the reflectance of the composite powders is about 10% higher than that of the uncoated powders in wavelength range from 0.41 to 2.5 μm. The emissivity decreases in wavelength range from 2.5 to 20 μm.But it shows little change and keeps high value in the wavelength range from 8 to 13 μm. The composite powders with mass fraction of 4.8% titania possess the optimum optical properties.
